City Statement on Public and Community Concerns

February 05, 2026

The City of Berkley is aware of increasing public concern regarding immigration enforcement activity, community protests, and reports circulating on social media. In light of this rapidly changing environment, we are closely following local and national developments while prioritizing the needs of our residents.

First and foremost: our priority is public safety and the constitutional rights of every person in our community. We will always follow the law and respond professionally to any situation that affects the safety of residents, visitors, or City staff.

The City does not generally interfere with lawful federal enforcement actions. If federal agents are present in the community, our role is to help ensure public safety, prevent conflict, and protect everyone’s rights. The City has not entered into any 287(g) agreement or contract, which would require Public Safety officers to carry out immigration enforcement activities.

We also want to be clear: our City does not support any infringement of constitutional rights, intimidation, harassment, or violence of any kind — whether directed at residents, public employees, law enforcement, or anyone else.

We are committed to keeping Berkley safe, orderly, and respectful — and to ensuring that all residents are treated with dignity.
