The Berkley Department of Public Safety has successfully earned re-accreditation through the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP). Following the department’s accreditation in 2023, this achievement demonstrates continued commitment to professional excellence, accountability, transparency, and providing the highest level of service to the Berkley community.

The accreditation process is a comprehensive review of a public safety agency's policies, procedures, operations, and professional practices. To achieve re-accreditation, the Berkley Department of Public Safety was required to demonstrate compliance with 120 professional standards established through the MACP accreditation program. As part of the process, the department submitted and documented 526 individual proofs of compliance, demonstrating that its policies and operations meet or exceed the standards required for accreditation.

“Our personnel take great pride in serving the Berkley community, and this accomplishment reflects their dedication to maintaining professional standards and continually improving the services we provide. Achieving our first accreditation was a significant accomplishment, but to continue and improve during our three-year review to become re-accredited says a lot about the work we do here,” said Director Matt Koehn. “I’d also specifically like to thank Lieutenant Andrew Hadfield, our accreditation manager. This process requires a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes, and the program would be significantly more difficult without his leadership and dedication.”
