Berkley’s City Code regulates the type, size and number of signs any property can have.

Sign Permit Application


Applications and all supporting documents may be submitted in one of the following ways:

  • Apply online at bsaonline.com
  • Email the application package to building@berkleymi.gov
  • Send the application package via regular mail to ATTN: Community Development Department,
    3338 Coolidge Hwy. Berkley, MI 48072
  • Drop the application package in the secure dropbox at City Hall’s main entrance
  • Submit the application package in person at the Community Development Department at City Hall

Fee payments can be made in person at City Hall or sent via regular mail.

No Permit 

Needed

  • Window Signs (No more than 25% of the window can be covered)
  • Any sign 6 sq. feet or less in size (2 feet x 3 feet)

One-Time Permit Required 

(for business districts)

  • Wall Sign
  • Projecting Sign
  • Awning Signs
  • Each Sign Permit Costs $100
  • Each Business is allowed one sign per facing street (corner properties get 2 signs)  

Signs Permitted 

Temporary Permit Required

  • Banners exceeding 6 sq. feet
  • Pennants
  • Balloons
  • Permit Required: Limited to two continues periods no greater than a total of 30 days in a calendar year.
  • Permit Costs $45

Permitted

Signs in the public right of way such as open houses, garage sales or political campaign signs. These signs will be removed from the right of way.
